Terms & Privacy
Last updated: August 2026 · Applies to Urge Pause version 5.2.3 and this website · Published by BML Innovations LLC
This page covers two things: how Urge Pause and this website handle your information (Privacy), and the terms under which you use them (Terms of Use). It is written to be read, not skimmed past — it is short because there is genuinely little to disclose.
Privacy
The short version
Urge Pause has no server. The app makes no network calls, has no accounts, and collects nothing. Everything it records stays in a database on your own PC. We could not see your data if we wanted to — and we don’t want to.
What the app records, and where it stays
Urge Pause exists to show you your own checking patterns, so it records the minimum needed to do that:
- Counts and timestamps of detected checking events.
- The window title or web address involved — the domain and page path, for example
mail.google.com/inbox, or the title of a desktop window. (A short-lived visit log, kept for one day by default, stores addresses as captured.) Never the content of a page, message, or document — it records that you checked, not what you read. - Optional urge ratings (1–5) and notes, only if you choose to enter them.
All of it lives in a local SQLite database on your PC. There is no cloud copy, no sync, no backup on our side. Raw event history ages out on a retention schedule you control in the app’s settings — 7, 30, or 90 days, or kept forever (30 days is the default); daily summaries are kept so your long-term trends survive.
What the app never records
- Keystrokes and clicks. Keyboard and mouse monitoring, if you turn it on, matches patterns in memory. What gets saved is only “a pattern fired” — never the keys you pressed or what you clicked on.
- Page content, messages, emails, or documents. Not read, not stored.
Monitoring is opt-in, and off means off
Keyboard and mouse monitoring are off by default, and they deliberately reset to off every time the app launches. Turning them on is always a conscious choice you make in that session — never something that quietly stays on.
Window-and-page watching (the app’s core function) runs while the app runs; you can exclude anything with the Ignore list, pause from the system tray, or quit the app entirely.
The only way data leaves your machine
You export it yourself, as a PDF report or a CSV file, from the app’s Privacy tab. That is the entire list. There is no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting, no update pinging, no network activity of any kind.
The website
This site (urgepause.com) is a static page. It has no accounts, no login, and no forms. We set no cookies, run no analytics or tracking scripts, and load nothing from third-party servers — the fonts and images are served from this site itself, so visiting it tells no one but the host that you were here.
That host is the one third party involved:
- Vercel hosts the site. Like any web host, Vercel’s servers receive standard request logs — your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested — handled under Vercel’s privacy policy. We do not receive, see, or store any of it ourselves.
Downloads
The installer is served from GitHub Releases (in the BMLInnovations/urge-pause-downloads repository). When you download it, GitHub’s servers see standard request data, handled under the GitHub Privacy Statement.
Children
The app and this website are not directed at children under 13. Since neither collects personal data from anyone, no personal data is collected from children either.
Changes to this page
If this page changes, the “Last updated” date at the top changes with it. Since the app collects nothing, meaningful changes here are likely to be rare — but check the date if it has been a while.
Terms of Use
The website
The content on this website is provided for general information about Urge Pause. We work to keep it accurate, but it is provided without warranties of any kind — we do not guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or availability, and it may change or go offline without notice. Your use of the site is at your own risk.
The software
Urge Pause (the app itself) is governed by its license, which you accept when you install it. If anything on this page conflicts with the license, the license controls for the software.
The app bundles third-party components — Electron, Chromium, Node.js, and various open-source libraries. Their license notices ship inside the installed app (see LICENSE.electron.txt, LICENSES.chromium.html, and the package license files in the installation folder) rather than being restated here.
Urge Pause is currently free to download and use. No payment is collected for anything today. A paid on-device tier is planned but not available; if it is ever released, it will come with its own terms, and nothing here creates any right to it.
Not a medical device
Urge Pause is a self-monitoring tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent OCD or any other condition, and it is not a substitute for care from a licensed professional. It is not therapy. It can support work you do with a clinician — such as providing between-session data — but it does not replace that work or that person.
Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- scrape or crawl this site in a way that degrades it for others;
- misrepresent yourself as affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for BML Innovations LLC or Urge Pause;
- redistribute modified copies of the installer as if they were the official release. The only official installers are those published in the
BMLInnovations/urge-pause-downloadsrepository on GitHub.
No warranty
THE WEBSITE AND THE SOFTWARE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL DETECT EVERY COMPULSIVE PATTERN, THAT IT WILL BE FREE OF ERRORS OR INTERRUPTIONS, OR THAT ANY DATA IT RECORDS WILL BE COMPLETE OR RECOVERABLE.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, BML INNOVATIONS LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES — INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF USE, OR PERSONAL DISTRESS — ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE WEBSITE OR THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. WHERE LIABILITY CANNOT BE EXCLUDED, IT IS LIMITED TO THE GREATEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN EXCLUSIONS OR LIMITATIONS, SO PARTS OF THIS SECTION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
Severability and interpretation
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable under the law that applies to you, that part is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest remains in effect. These terms are intended to be read under whatever law applies in your place of residence; nothing here is meant to take away protections that law gives you and does not allow you to waive.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the current version. For the website, using it after a change means the updated terms apply. For the software, the license that shipped with the version you installed is the one you accepted — a newer license applies when you install a version that carries it.
